Each and every woman has a natural reserve of eggs in her ovary. Each month one unfertilised egg travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus. The egg comes out when the uterus sheds its lining. This is what we call ‘menstruation’.  Lately, it is observed that women have low egg count. Being low on eggs makes conception difficult. In this blog, we would want to share some facts about low ovarian reserves and the solution to it. Dr. Seema Jain is the best Obstetrician Gynecologist at CheQKmate Fertility Clinic.

What is the reason for a low ovarian reserve?
Due to the changing trends in the society, families start a bit later than they used to a decade ago. Due to increased infertility, the scenario of the low ovarian reserve has come into picture. Quantity and quality of eggs vary among women of the same age. There are fair chances of decrease in eggs with respect to age.

Is there any way I can find out on what scale my ovarian reserve is?

Ovarian reserve will give you the quantity and quality of the eggs that your ovaries have. Some tests are used to measure the egg counts are measurement of FSH, LH, estradiol and inhibin-B.
After these test results come out, your doctor will decide what is the best available solution for you.

What if all my eggs are exhausted?
The world seems to stop at the moment when you are informed that your eggs are exhausted. You do not know whether there is any resource available for you. Distress yourself only to know the fact that, there is something called as an ‘egg donation program’. There are women, who willingly are ready to donate their healthy eggs for the couples who are yet to conceive but the woman does not have her own eggs. Dr. Seema Jain is the best Obstetrician Gynecologist at CheQKmate Fertility Clinic.

How does this work?

  • Screening of egg donor: The donor is checked for her medical competence. Fertility levels, blood tests for infections are important things to make a note of. Emotional health of the donor is extremely important.
  • (Donor) Ovarian Simulation: Lupron injections are given to the donor. This is done so that the donor’s and recipient’s cycle is brought to the same level and stays synchronised. Donor’s ovaries are stimulated with Gonadotropin. Ideally, one single egg matures at a time but these injections help multiple eggs mature. Ultrasounds are done to check the response.
  • Endometrial status for the recipient: The woman going to receive the egg from the donor must have around 7-8 mm of lining in the uterus. Only after the required thickness of the lining is developed, implantation can be done.
  • Egg Retrieval for the donor: Only after the donor’s eggs have sufficiently developed, her ovulation will be triggered with a HCG injection. After a couple of days the eggs are retrieved.
  • Fertilised egg transfer to the recipient: The eggs received are fertilised along with her partner’s sperm.
  • Grafting of the embryo: The embryo is further grafted in the recipient’s uterus. Recipient shall give a positive result after around 2-3 weeks of grafting.

The entire process may take around 6-7 weeks of time, provided both the donor and the recipient couple visit the required stations at appropriate timings.

How can I take care of myself after having grafted with an embryo?

  • Stay away from sex to avoid infections. (Duration may vary. Go as per your doctor’s advice)
  • Avoid heavy lifting.
  • No hot baths for 15 days.
  • Workouts must be kept light.
  • Load yourself with Progesterone.
  • Smoking and drinking can turn the entire procedure into a complete waste.

Train your mind to see the good in each and every situation. This procedure shall surely take you towards motherhood. Your thinking automatically evokes positive energy and makes life turn positive. Have a break up with stress and fall in love with dreaming about your little one for the day isn’t too far!!

Remember, the egg donor is no less than an angel, who has come up as a blessing in your lives, only to take both of you in the world of parenthood!
