Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland placed in your throat. This gland is completely responsible for the body growth. All the major activities in the body are taken care by this gland.

What levels should be a concern? Higher or lower
There are two kinds of imbalances.

  • Hyperthyroid: Excess generation of the hormone in the gland leads to hyperthyroidism. You may experience slight depression, anxiety and weight loss.
  • Hypothyroid: Here, the generation of the hormones are lesser than the desired levels. In this case you my face issues related to metabolism. Your weight increases and fatigue too.

How does thyroid affect fertility?
Thyroid levels obstruct your capacity of conception. This may lead to symptoms of infertility in women.

Ovulation is a process where in your uterus releases an egg each month. This needs equal co-ordination from the brain. Low thyroid levels hamper the pituitary gland which in turn does not synchronize with the ovaries for the release of an egg.
If the egg gets fertilized, due to the low thyroid levels, the egg does not gain enough strength to plant itself on the wall of the uterus. The fertilized egg travels down from the uterus causing miscarriage.
When low levels of thyroid are left untreated, there are chances that your ovaries may stop the process of ovulation!
With elevated thyroid levels, even if one conceives, carrying the baby to term shall be near to impossible. The growth of your baby gets affected.
