WHEN WILL I CONCEIVE?

WHEN WILL I CONCEIVE?

Mera Number Kab Aayega?

Waiting for the “good news” after putting in a lot of effort may be difficult. The scenario of receiving pregnancy news as a surprise is no longer prevalent. A 25-year-old with a child is more of an outlier than the standard these days. Today, everything must be planned, even conception. We understand the necessity for women to plan, even for conception, since we are these women.

Many couples believe that discontinuing the pill is enough to result in a pregnancy, but this is not always the case. So, let’s learn about the three ‘C’s of conception: chances, choices, and care.

What’s your Age?

If you and your partner are in good health, have no known significant medical concerns, can have regular intercourse, and are under the age of 35, you should wait at least 6-8 months before becoming concerned. Fertility testing is often performed after a year of trying because more than 80% of people will conceive by then.

• At 30 years old, a woman has a 20% chance of conceiving per cycle.

• At 40 years old, a woman has a 5% chance of conceiving every cycle.

• After the age of 40, the chances of conceiving every cycle are substantially reduced. Even men’s fertility declines after the age of 40 due to lower genetic quality sperm caused by ageing.

Where are you on your stress scale?

Couples with or without reproductive concerns may find that stress reduces their chances of conception each cycle. According to studies, women who are anxious during the ovulatory window have a lower probability of becoming pregnant. Having sex according to the calendar might mechanise the procedure and throw your hormones out of sync, lowering your chances of pregnancy. According to one research, stressed-out women are 15% to 20% less fertile than the general population. So relax, especially during your most reproductive period.

Yoga, exercise, and meditation can all help you let go and feel at peace.

How long should I wait ?

• If you are 25 years old, there is a one in four chance that you may become pregnant within four months.

• If you are 26 to 39 years old, you have a one-in-seven chance of becoming pregnant within 7 months.

• If you are 40 years old, there is a 1 in 20 chance that you will become pregnant within 20 months.

What can improve my chances of getting pregnant?

Once you’ve chosen to want a family, there are a few things you may do to increase your chances of conception.

• Break those bad habits – quit smoking and drinking, since they not only impair conception but may also harm the growing foetus. Caffeine reduction can help with fertility.

• Get in shape – It is essential to maintain a healthy BMI; being overweight or underweight can cause hormonal imbalances and hinder conception. Exercise not only stimulates the release of hormones, which enhances fertility, but it also reduces fat deposits, resulting in a healthier BMI. Excessive activity should be avoided since it might harm fertility. Have a wholesome diet included.

• Have frequent sex – While this may appear to be the most apparent point, it is worth noting that having sex at regular intervals is preferable to ‘trying for a kid’ during mid cycle. Regular intercourse keeps sperm fresh, which increases your chances of becoming pregnant.

• Consult a Fertility Specialist – If you or your partner have any issues that you believe may jeopardise your fertility, consult a Fertility Specialist

What are my chances of conception with various fertility treatment options?

Not all women can conceive naturally or traditionally; others may require assisted reproductive technologies. The procedures required can range from basic ones like ovulation induction and/or IUI to complex ones like IVF/ICSI to third-party reproduction like surrogacy and/or egg/sperm/embryo donation. The success rates of various treatment modalities are as follows (which may vary from centre to centre):

Ovulation Induction   8% – 12% per cycle

Ovulation Induction with IUI   14% – 18% per cycle

IVF / ICSI (with self eggs / sperm)   40% – 50% per cycle

It’s important to understand that pregnancy cannot always be planned. While it might take up to six months to conceive, it is possible that you will become pregnant on your first try.

To summarise, here’s a brief glimpse of the three ‘C’s of conception. –

• The likelihood of conception varies with the age of the female.

• Whether we realise it or not, the decisions we make in our daily lives have an impact on fertility.

• Taking care of your own and your spouse’s health might significantly improve your chances of conceiving.
